Personal Introduction

18 Months ago, I retired from the Aerospace business after 22 years working in the Northwest on various major contracts, prior to this I spent 24 years in the Royal Air Force as an Aircraft Electrical Technician. I have been married to Monica for 22 years and we have two grown up daughters. After a number of local moves in the Northwest we have finally settled in Thornton where we hope to reside for the rest of our lives.

What inspired you to join the branch committee, and what are you most looking forward to achieving in your role?

Now that I have time on my hands I hope to be able to bring to the branch committee a level of administrative organisation to maintain the standards expected from the local committee, the national CAMRA organisation as well as supporting our members in the area for which we cover.

Can you share a bit about your background and experience with Real Ale, Cider, or Perry?

I was introduced to CAMRA back in 1996 while working in Wiltshire for the RAF by a colleague who was a good beer guide selector for the NW Wiltshire branch, from then I have supported CAMRA and together with another good friend I use the Good Beer Guide as my bible for real ale while I travel the UK (it has very rarely disappointed)!

What do you see as the biggest opportunities or challenges facing the branch in the coming year, and how do you plan to address them?

A bit early for me as I need to fully understand the ground before I can comment, I have tried a few of the local pubs placed in the 2024 guide by the committee and so far I can say that the branch has made decent choices. We need to get the younger generation on board as they will be the future.

Outside of your involvement with CAMRA, what are some of your interests or hobbies?

Any sport but primarily football having spent many years coaching in both the professional and amateur game then spending 14 years scouting for Oxford United and Millwall before being replaced by Optastats, ProZone and videos, the strange thing is when this decision was made the club were relegated! I also play society golf and really enjoy travelling with my wife and family.

If you could raise a pint with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?

My dad, no explanation needed !
